Like many charities, ours relies on income from visitors to be able to restore and protect the Garden for the benefit of the public, as we have been doing for over 30 years.
2019 was our most successful year ever with over 57,000 visitors. Now, along with many other charitable organisations, this unique Rococo gem created in the 1740s urgently needs your help to survive.
Painswick Rococo Garden Trust preserves, maintains and improves the garden and its buildings as a place of historic and environmental beauty. Since the restoration started in earnest in the 1980s, we have welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors, and enabled forest schools, theatre, yoga, photography and art classes, nature trails, bee keeping, weddings, traineeships, apple pressing and sculpture exhibitions.
The closure due to the coronavirus outbreak has meant lost revenue of £169,000 for the period March to May 20 when compared to the same period in 2019. Costs during the closure period have been cut to the bare minimum, but we still have essential operating costs of around £8,000 per month.
This loss in income followed the wettest February on record, which brought a devastating drop in income of nearly £50,000 during our peak snowdrop season.
The enrichment that a garden provides physically, mentally as well as spiritually has been shown to be of great value, particularly at these uncertain times. To save this unique garden for future generations we need your help. To make a one-off donation via JustGiving, click on the button below, or to become a regular giver via direct debit, click here.
